SA: Council expects to reopen lake after algal bloom

Adelaide's Torrens Lake is expected to be reopened today after algal blooms forced
the closure of the city waterway on Monday.

Adelaide City Council general manager city strategy JOHN HARRY says blue-green algae
has returned to safe levels in the lake, part of the River Torrens running through the
city centre.

The lake was closed to the public on Monday after testing revealed levels of blue-green
algae above health guidelines, posing a risk of skin irritations.

It's the third straight year high levels of blue-green algae have caused the lake to
be closed in summer.
