Shoppers in downtown Lancaster might one day find antique furniture alongside 1960s ashtrays.

The Lancaster Downtown Investment District Authority wants to establish an antiques and collectibles mall near Penn Square. The organization is looking for a developer to take on the project so a mall can open by July 1, said Janis Beitzer, the authority's executive director.

Beitzer acknowledged that the authority has not done formal studies or research to see if there would be a market for such a mall. She noted the success of antique and collectible stores already open.
