Qld: Teenager gets spear in nose

BRISBANE, Dec 11 AAP - Doctors removed a spear from a teenage boy's nose today after
a fishing accident on North Stradbroke Island, off Brisbane.

The 14-year-old was taking a fish from a spear at Cylinder Beach when a wave pushed
him forward and onto the barbed end, a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said.

"The spear was embedded about 4cm in his nose," she said.

The boy was taken to a Queensland Health service centre at Dunwich and flown to Brisbane's
Princess Alexandra Hospital about two hours later.

A hospital spokeswoman said the boy was allowed to go home after the spear was removed.
